(1) Solenoid thermostat mainly consists of a pneumatic connecting union, a Thermostat Body Assy, a Seat Assy, a stick and a Solenoid Assy.

电磁恒温器主要由气动连接接头、恒温器本体组件、阀座组件、阀杆和电磁阀组件组成。

– The pneumatic union has thread characteristics and a dry-lubrication protection treatment that permit full tightening with no risk of seizing.

– The thermostat body is made of stainless steel to withstand temperature variations. The mounting tapped hole of the Seat Assy has fine threads to permit a fine adjustment.

– The Seat Assy has an adjusting screw secured into Thermostat Body Assy. A seat equipped with a seal and a stop moves within the bore of the adjusting screw. A spring maintains the seat into contact with the upper end of the stick rod.

– A mesh at the top of the Seat Assy protects the inside of the thermostat against foreign bodies. A castellated nut permits the locking of the adjusting screw.

– The Solenoid Assy has a body fitted with a spacer that support an electrical connector. A coil installed in the solenoid body accommodates a core. The coil is mechanically maintained into position in the body to withstand vibrations.

Operation (Refer to Figure 3)

A. General

(1) Solenoid thermostat continuously senses the temperature of the air delivered downstream the Precooler Heat Exchanger of the bleed air system and monitors the differential pressure between the upstream side of the Bleed Pressure Regulating Valve and the downstream side of the precooler. It limits the air delivery through the bleed air system by controlling the closing of the Bleed Pressure Regulating Valve pneumatically.

B. Operating Principle (Refer to Figure 3)

(a) Overheat Function (Refer to Figure 3).

If the temperature of the air delivery rises to a predetermined level, the tube of stick expands and causes the invar rod to move. The invar rod, which acts as a clapper causes the Bleed Pressure Regulating Valve coupling line to leak. This leak causes the Bleed Pressure Regulating Valve to regulate a lower pressure.

(b) Electrical Closing Function (Refer to Figure 3).

When the coil of the Solenoid Assy is energized through the electrical connector, the core moves up. The clapper under the spring load moves off its seat.This permits the venting of the coupling line and causes the closing of the Bleed Pressure Regulating Valve.

This sub-system includes a bleed pressure regulating valve designated bleed valve associated with a bleed valve control solenoid.

This sub-system enables the aircraft systems to be supplied with air under a normal nominal pressure lower than or equal to 48 psig (cruise normal flow). The IP stage bleed air pressure (or HP stage pressure if the HP bleed valve fails in the open position) is limited downstream of the bleed valve.

The bleed valve operates pneumatically in relation with the associated bleed valve control solenoid. The bleed valve control solenoid is connected to the bleed valve by a pneumatic sense line and is installed in the duct downstream of the precooler exchanger. The bleed valve control solenoid controls the bleed valve closure when the valve solenoid is energized by the BMC or by action on the ENG BLEED pushbutton switch or ENG FIRE. The bleed valve control solenoid reduces the bleed valve regulated pressure when the temperature exceeds 235⁰C.In case of overpressure caused by the bleed valve failure, the overpressure valve closes.

The bleed valve control solenoid ensures the following functions:

① Pressure limitation slaving (downstream of the bleed valve) to:

– the air temperature at the precooler exchanger outlet if the downstream temperature is higher than 235⁰C.This is achieved by decreasing of pressure signal sent to the bleed valve regulator which causes reduction of the bleed valve regulation setting.

② Bleed valve closure.This is achieved by venting the pressure signal sent from the bleed valve regulator by electrical action on the solenoid in case of:
