A. The High Pressure Shutoff Valve (Figure 1 for PN 802170-1 thru -8, Figure 2 for PN 802170-9 thru -12) is a 5.5-inch (139.7000 mm) butterfly valve powered by a half-area pneumatic actuator. The actuator, which is bolted to the high temperature alloy valve body, is a piston-type design which drives the butterfly valve through a connecting link and crank.
B. The valve utilizes two plunger-type valve position switches. Both of the switches are used for built in test equipment (BITE) indications. Only the close switch is used for flight panel indication of valve closure.
C. The valve switch actuating lever is hex shaped to allow manual positioning of the valve. A positioning screw, normally stored in the actuator cap, may be removed to vent actuator servo pressure and threaded into the switch actuating lever to lock the valve in the closed position.
D. Visual valve position indication is shown by the position of the switch actuation lever to O (open) and S (shut) markings on the actuator housing.
A. The High Pressure Shutoff Valve operates in response to pneumatic servo pressure (Figure 3). This pressure enters the valve actuator and acts against a piston which is loaded toward the closed position by a spring and inlet pressure. Sufficient servo pressure moves the actuator piston and attached links and crank to open the valve.
B. If the controller servo pressure is lost or shut off, the spring-loaded piston and the inlet pressure moves the valve to the closed position.
C. In the valve closed position both position switches are closed (Figure 4). The valve closed position switch provides a signal to the flight panel and the BITE module. The valve open position switch provides a signal only to the BITE module.
The HPSOV opens and closes because of pneumatic servo pressure from the HPC. This pressure enters the valve actuator and acts against a spring and inlet pressure loaded piston. Sufficient servo pressure (10 psi minimum) from the HPC moves the actuator piston and attached links and cranks to open the valve. The valve is spring loaded to fully close if servo pressure is lost.
